Baseline Protocol for Dog with Anxiety
The information below is my baseline protocol for dogs who are exhibiting various forms of anxiety. I offer this information under the assumption that your dog, or dogs, are healthy and have no underlying medical issues or injuries.
Like anything else in dog training and care, there is no "one size fits all". So, I established this protocol as a starting point to help you help your dog, or dogs, reduce anxiety they are experiencing. As always, I start with addressing training, stimulation and behavior. My 7 Day Dog Care Challenge videos will help you establish, or restore, a consistent daily routine that will help improve your dog's reliability and behavior overall. More importantly, it will help create good habits for your dog - AND YOU! Daily training and stimulation deficiencies can contribute to all forms of anxiety and behavioral issues within the household and beyond. Having consistent structure on a DAILY BASIS is the first line of defense in dealing with behavioral issues and anxiety. In addition to training, stimulation and behavior modification, nutrition and supplements can help promote a more balanced dog overall. As many people know, I am huge proponent of holistic pet care. Holism, by definition, is the theory that one part of anything is dependent on all other parts. So, the "whole" is greater than the sum of its parts. A truly holistic approach to dog care is to address all areas of the dog's life that needs improvement. This is why I also believe in sound nutrition and natural supplements, when needed. At the bottom of this page, I have also included some recommended nutrition bullet points as well as natural supplements that can compliment any behavior modification protocol.
Disclaimer: Always consult your veterinarian for medical issues. And, if you are experiencing behavioral issues that puts your dog or others at risk of physical injury, consult your Veterinarian or Dog Care Professional immediately.
